Since 1999, the Hokkaido Marathon has led other Japanese running events in charity fundraising to support children of traffic accident victims. All participants are charity runners.
To further widen the circle of charity runners simultaneously supporting marathon events and related social contribution, the NPO Runners Support Hokkaido (a member of the Organizing Committee for the Hokkaido Marathon) has invited charity entries separately from regular entries since the 2015 event with the approval and cooperation of the Organizing Committee for the Hokkaido Marathon.
The five 2024 charity entry options for donations, encompass the three specialist areas of nature and the environment, disabilities and welfare, and sports, culture and local development, Solaputi Kids' Camp and Hokkaido Marathon Clean Declaration. Donations are divided among the five categories as specified by runners at the time of entry.
Funds from runners choosing any of the three specialist areas will go to groups identified by the selection board after the event as contributing significantly to related activities in Hokkaido.
Ninety percent of donations will go to groups active in the specialist areas or to bodies specified by runners, and 10% will go to the NPO Runners Support Hokkaido to cover operating expenses.
*See the 2023 charity entry report for last year's results.
Charity entries are registered on this charity entry application site.
In addition to making donations, applicants can collect contributions from family, friends on social media, and anybody else wishing to support the cause.
Applicants donating 50,000 yen or more can simply pay the entry fee to secure a full-marathon charity entry place in the Hokkaido Marathon 2024.
Charity entry runners and their supporters are eligible for tax breaks on donations.
*Tax breaks do not apply to entry fees.
